Ruby Jewel Treats – A Portland Scoop Shop

We are shocked that we apparently have not yet told you all about Ruby Jewel Treats ice cream in Portland, Oregon. We recently stopped in to their West End shop, which is relatively new. It opened last summer, but we had not yet been in. Not until this weekend.

Ruby Jewel started with Lisa and her sister making (damn good) ice cream sandwiches in 2004 and selling them at the farmers’ markets in Portland. You can find the sandwiches in grocery stores up and down the West Coast, including Whole Foods.

Now, there’s also the scoop shops – one in North Portland on Mississippi and one on the West End (which we visited). Lisa uses all natural ingredients, nothing from a mix, and makes everything in house, including the marshmallow fluff, which frankly is so heady and delightful that I would not mind rolling around in a vat of it.

The shops are as cute as the ice cream is delicious, and the staff is warm and friendly. I had the Caramel with Salted Dark Chocolate and the afore-mentioned marshmallow topping. Unfortunately, I seem to have eaten it all before I could get a photo.

If you’re in Portland and want some pretty incredible ice cream, you know where to go.
