Suppenkuche – Great German Food in San Francisco

The FoodShed recently spent a long weekend enjoying the foods of San Francisco. At the top of the must-eat list: Suppenkuche in Hayes Valley. It’s a cute little restaurant with seriously good food, an excellent beer list, and a very helpful, patient and friendly staff.

Right now, they’re serving beers that are being served at the Munich Oktoberfest, and the bar is set up a like a gradient – light to dark.

It’s what they are serving in the tents in Munich this year, lighter with a nice hoppy finish.

There are lots of good-looking options on the menu. Try the pork sausages with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. So good! When it was delivered to her table, she thought, oh goodness, there is no way I can finish three sausages… Well, they were so flippin good, I’m pretty sure if there had been 6 on my plate, those would be gone too. Especially paired with the simple potatoes and nice and briny sauerkraut, maybe the best I’ve ever had. Reason to go to Germany for a visit. If I can’t be there now for Oktoberfest, I can at least close my eyes and experience it for a moment.
