A Seattle Gingerbread Lattes Recipe

We’re usually coffee purists, as befits true Seattlites. But, when a local Seattle coffee shop started serving gingerbread lattes, a friend and I thought we’d give it a try. One sip and we were hooked. A little experimenting at home, and this recipe seems pretty darn close to recreating that first magical gingerbread latte moment.

Gingerbread Latte

In a small saucepan over low heat, heat a cup of molasses, 2 or 3 sticks of cinnamon, a chunk of ginger (with the skin removed), 1/3 tsp nutmeg and 1/3 tsp cloves. Stir to mix (making sure the molasses doesn’t caramelize). Heat for about 10 minutes. Use a tablespoon or two to flavor steamed milk, or to make a latte.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 or 3 sticks cinnamon
  • 1/3 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/3 tsp cloves
  • chunk of fresh ginger
  • latte
